New Year 2011

Cockermouth Centre for the Third Age provides a ‘One-stop shop’ for people in later life. We work alongside the NHS, local charities and other organisations to provide information, advice and support to improve the wellbeing of the older people of CA13.
A New Year is always a good time to reassess our lifestyle. This year at the Centre we are not just looking at diet and fitness, but at our total wellbeing. This means looking at our mental health as well. As we grow older we have to adapt to so many changes. Due to retirement we have more time on our hands yet we can easily become less active as we become less physically able to get out and about, and we begin to lose our older friends and family. These factors can lead to isolation and depression.
This year the Centre team are aiming to help you to improve your wellbeing by working alongside local charities to find and develop social activities and support groups in the CA13 area. We already hold contact details of many activities, clubs and societies in CA13 to suit a variety of hobbies and interests. The Centre itself is used by local charitable organisations for Drop-in advice and support sessions, such as, Age UK, Alzheimer’s Society, Cruse, Hospice at Home, Red Cross and West Cumbria Carers. Please contact the Centre for further details. We also intend to have a wellbeing event in March and produce a bi-monthly newsletter.
Remember, this Centre is for you so let us know what you need from us and we will do our very best to provide it.
